Risk & Reward

Size the lot from the risk you accept, and measure risk : reward on the chart

  • MetaTrader 4 v1.1.2 Released

The on-chart board

Interface illustration of Risk & Reward — laid out from the real on-chart board; money values are shown as dashes. The panel sits on a MetaTrader 4 chart alongside the lines you drew; money values are shown as dashes here.

Risk & Reward turns "how many lots?" into "how much am I willing to lose?" — mark the entry, the stop and the target on the chart, and the tool works out the lot size and the risk : reward ratio before you click.

What it does

  • Computes lot size from a per-trade risk percentage
  • Shows the risk : reward ratio of the plan you drew
  • Entry / stop / target are adjustable directly on the chart
  • Readable from the MetaTrader 4 mobile app on the same chart

How it works

  1. Set the risk per trade

As a percentage of the capital you accept losing on one trade.

  2. Draw the plan

Place the entry, the stop and the target.

  3. Read it back

The tool shows the lot size that matches that risk, plus the risk : reward ratio.

Who it suits

  • Traders who size by a fixed percentage risk
  • Traders who want the risk : reward in front of them before entering

What to watch out for

  • It is a calculator: it places no orders.
  • The numbers depend on your broker's contract data — check the contract size and tick value of the symbol before you rely on it.
